After many years of mathematics placement derived from an internally developed system, the University has very recently signed a contract to supply mathematics placement testing with McGraw Hill/ALEKS, an online adaptive program that provides both placement testing and remediation. The decision to pursue a vender-based placement and remediation solution was made at the urging of the Mathematics Department in consultation with Undergraduate Education (Old Main), the University Academic Measurement Committee (UAMC), the University Advising Council (UAC), and Information Technology Services (ITS). During this session, Dr. Sellers will discuss some of the near-term implications of this decision, the on-going activities required to position us for a spring semester implementation, and the longer-term calibration issues. This promises to be a lively and exciting discussion.
